Mark Filipp is a shareholder with Kemp Klein who has litigated a wide range of business and commercial disputes in diverse areas with particular concentration in labor and employment law.
He has defended employers in a wide range of employment cases, including defense of claims alleging wrongful discharge, discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliatory discharge, defamation, whistleblower claims, and matters before various administrative bodies including the MDCR and EEOC. In addition, Mr. Filipp is regularly involved in the preparation of employment agreements, covenant not to compete agreements, confidentiality agreements and litigation involving their enforceability. Mr. Filipp also provides regular counsel to employers concerning such matters as reductions-in-force, employee discipline and employee discharge.
Mr. Filipp has authored and/or edited many books and articles on employment law topics and is a frequent lecturer on current employment law issues before such groups as the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), the Western Association of Equipment Lessors (WAEL), the Mid-Michigan Chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP), and the Insurance Women of Metropolitan Detroit, Inc. Mr. Filipp was also an instructor of the “Employment Law Series” for Schoolcraft College Continuing Education Services and conducts in-house training for employers on various employment law topics geared toward reducing risk and exposure to employment litigation.
Mr. Filipp maintains an “AV” peer review rating with Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory, the highest peer review rating for attorneys. He was also selected for inclusion in the 2006 and 2007 issues of Michigan Super Lawyers magazine featuring the top 5% of attorneys in Michigan, published annually by Law & Politics.
